American Widgeon Reflection - Colorado, USA – Don Hamilton Jr.
Did you like the rhino reflection yesterday? Well here is one with a bit more color. Ok maybe a lot more color, but just as beautiful and tranquil as yesterday. Don has been featured here several times before, such as this family portrait of momma and her three bear cubs. Please read Don’s story below and then you can find more of his beautiful Colorado work here http://500px.com/DonHamiltonJr.
Enjoy!
Enter Don:
Well, I’ve dreamed for years of getting an image, where the water was colored by the reflection from the surrounding vegetation!! Voila, i finally got a series of them. Colorado produced not only a wonderful chance at large mammals, but birds, and water fowl as well. Let’s put it this way, if I didn’t have responsibilities in Florida, You know .. like a job!! I’d be in Colorado for 1/2 of the year for sure!! Pardon the words…. “But Colorado freaking ROCKS!!!!!!!!!”
Ok, on to the image. There is zero manipulation of the water, and image. I darkened the water a bit, some selective sharpening on this widgeon and Voila, here you have it!! …It was such a rush to get very low on the ground, with the tripod legs in the water, light directly behind me, sun setting, and watching the glow develop on the water, as it reflected off of the golden dry grasses, surrounding the pond!! I was able to shoot until almost dark.. Only problem, with this image is… I needed a massage, and therapy for the neck post shooting… or better, A 90 degree Hoodman loop, as i couldn’t get any lower, and endure the neck strain!
Lens 500mm plus 1.4
Focal Length 700mm
Shutter Speed 1250 sec
