Mossbrae Falls
“Illuminate” – Shasta Cascade, California – Aaron Reed
At 50ft high and 150 ft wide Mossbrae Falls is one of the most scenic waterfalls in California. However if you want to hike to the falls please be advised to be careful because the only way in is on active train tracks. We are glad Aaron made the hike to Mossbrae Falls because this image is outstanding. Please read the story below then check out his spectacular imagery at his website http://www.aaronreedphotography.com
“Waterworld” is my favorite section.
Enter Aaron:
There isn’t a whole lot to tell other than the fact that it was a bright sunny day and trying to manage the changing light was difficult. I waited until I liked the balance of light and shadow and captured the image using a circular polarizer and a graduated Neutral density filter on one side of the image. The image was captured with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. The shutter speed was 10 seconds and the aperture was f/16. ISO was 100. It was captured at 70mm. The location is Mossbrae Falls in the state of California. You have to hike down an active railway to get to this location and it can be dangerous. I believe they may have made it illegal to walk the railway to discourage people from going but as you can imagine that only works so well.

That is stunning! I love it!
stunning!
OMG ! That’s all I can say !
Beautiful and surreal. Nice work with the long exposure. The scene is well worth the trek I say, illegal or not!
Oh would I love to be there on this day that’s approaching 100 degrees!
So many sections of falling water make this quite interesting.
Wonderful! I never associate California with waterfalls so this is nice to see.
I grew up south of this area and I never knew they were there. I am going to have to check them out. Thank you.
