Natural Cathedral

The Natural Cathedral

“La Cathédrale Naturelle”– Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Lars van der Goor – Featured Photographer

I love photos that you can walk into.  This one by Lars is a great example.  The light on the trees is quite amazing.  Many images in the forest feel dark and gloomy while this feels just the opposite.  Inspiring perhaps?  The flowers soften the path while the natural cross at the end of the road seems like a perfect destination.  Lars isn’t just a one image wonder in fact his style captures the woods (and many other subjects)  better than any photographer I have ever seen.  Check out his gallery HERE to prove me right!  For his entire website head on over to http://www.larsvandegoor.com or just chat him up on his FACEBOOK

Enter Lars:

Sometimes you take your best images just around the corner.  I happen to know this path very well and in my early years of photography I cycled that path in every season.  In May/June you can find these flowers “cow parsley” along the side of the road.  It was in the early evening with a warm soft sunshiny glow on the trees.  I took this one with my Panasonic DMC FZ50 and took it from a very low angle.  What you see at the end of the road looks like a cross which in fact is a part of a small sluice.

  29. Stunning…. Nature is wonderful… I think she has outdone herself here…. My first thought was that it looks more like a painting than a photo.. There seems way too much natural balance for it to be a photo.. and yet… ;)

  47. I’ve linked this to my personal blog on WordPress and so far it’s gathered more responses in a shorter time than any other post I’ve ever made. Bravo for posting this brilliant photograph! (Although most of the commenting people seem to miss that while this is a natural cathedral, the basic pattern had to be planted by man! :) )

  60. Thank you, Lars (and PhotoBotos) for sharing this. The colors are rapture-ish, the effect, magnificent. And the camera settings? You’ve helped me find some of my own majesty around the corner…. Because you are right. Great shots don’t necessarily need an exotic location, just great timing and an even better eye.

  61. It really does look like a cathedral–one that God made, not man-made. What a joy it must be to bike here (or walk) and see all the changes during the year!

  88. I kneel to pray
In the cathedral beneath the trees
In the mist of heavenly tranquility.
It is here that I lay
    My heart and spirit today.
    Beneath the lacy tops
    Of the trees that prop
The Cathedral within the Lord’s Divinity.
