Playing in the Shadows- Zion National Park, UT

This day in Zion National Park was amazing.  The snow had fallen the night before and the 50 degree temperature had already melted most of the exposed areas.  I shot this from a very famous outlook after a mile or so hike in the snow with my family. In this photograph I really enjoy the contrast between the light and dark areas. Once again this was possible using an HDR technique that I will soon have a tutorial for in the coming weeks.  Zion has to be one of my most favorite parks and many say it rivals Yosemite in its’ beauty.  I am planning a trip to Yosemite this spring so I will be sure to let you know how they compare.  Let me know what you think. Have a great day and please keep your photos coming.

  1. Zion’s one of our most beautiful parks, I think. This photograph is gorgeous. I love the contrast between light and dark and it is so crisp, I feel like I’m standing there. Thank you for sharing such a lovely scene.

  2. Lovely image. I did a week of hiking in Zion and it was an amazing experience. Each area is so different from the other.

  3. I hiked to Angel’s Landing in July; now I want to go back when there’s a dusting of snow like this. Breathtaking! And Yosemite is way too polluted now to compare.
