Trees in the Snow (Crystal Vision) - Vosges Mountains, France – PHILIPPE SAINTE-LAUDY
Today is one of those fairytale images. You know the ones where you expect to see little elves running around. If they have a dark vibe then we tend to think of them as “Lord of the Rings” images. This one has a very clean and clear feeling. That sky color is so nice it could be a Crayola crayon color. What do you guys think? Please read Philippe’ s story below and then visit his spectacular site at http://www.naturephotographie.com/.
Enjoy!
Enter Michael:
A photo taken in France in the Vosges mountains. We are at 1000 meters altitude and it freezes! A polarizing filter enhances the colors and the angle of shooting highlights the frozen trees. I overexposed by one stop to get a good snow white. I also chose a small aperture for good depth of field.
Shutter speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100

I very much like the look of this scene – it has hints of a full-spectrum infrared shot – although I see that it was done with visible light only.
Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely breath-taking!
A magical and delightful photo.
Sorry, I don’t get Tolkien in this; more C S Lewis…Hollywood version, of course. About to log off and nip into my wardrobe right now.
Well, yeah, but LOTR really didn’t spend a lot of time in snowy woods whereas TCON began there… and both sets of films were largely shot in New Zealand anyway.
For a Tolkien fan this might be more of a reminder of the Elder Days, as it is for me.
One word: “Beautiful”
I swear I did see an elf or two – gorgeous!
