Upper Antelope Canyon Sand Falls – Page, AZ

This place is pretty special.  Literally, it is just a large crack in the earth that runs for about a quarter mile through the sandstone.  Everywhere you look there is a photographic opportunity.  On the morning I was there it had just been dusted with a light snowfall.  However, the number of visitors had already trampled through melting all the snow.  No worries… if you take the photo tour you will have plenty of time to photograph several different angles of the canyon.  Remember to bring a tripod and cable release because you can’t handhold at such long exposures and a flash will mute the natural red color.

Okay, here at PhotoBotos we are known for our full disclosure.  For the “sand falls” effect our guide placed some sand on the wall and we photographed it falling in what seemed to be slow motion.  It was just as beautiful in person as it is in the photograph.  Without this help the photo would not have been possible.  However, I do feel it is very impressive just the same and it mimics a natural occurrence.  Hope this doesn’t disappoint.  By the way the Easter Bunny is still real.

  10. At first glance, two words came to mind: hour glass, then two more: time warp. I enjoying looking at the image — the colours, textures and movement are earthy, yet sensual.//mm

  12. Ahahah, that sand effect is such a cheat, but I’ll forgive you for confessing. It does look beautiful and is a nice touch so I can’t blame you at all. A little artistic ingenuity :>. You’re right, that place does look pretty special.

…After I learn how to photograph it properly. It sounds very tricky, and I can only hope that someday I’ll be able to capture it almost as vividly as you’ve captured it here.
