White Tailed Eagle (Sea Eagle) – Hungary – Will Nichols

White Tailed Eagle (Sea Eagle) – Hungary – Will Nichols
Sea eagles are very similar to the bald eagles of North America minus the very distinctive headdress. With less than 12,000 pairs left in the world they have battled back from the brink of extinction in the past few decades. Will captures this one looking like he/she is about to take a drink or maybe even a bath in this large pool of water. Please read Will’s story below then visit his site http://www.willnicholls.co.uk for some more great White tailed eagle photographs. By the way this is Will’s sophomore feature. He also photographed this inquisitive red squirrel.
Enjoy!

This white-tailed eagle was photographed in Hungary this winter. They are huge, majestic birds and are the fourth largest raptors in the world. The first day was extremely misty, which was very worrying from a photographic point of view as the mist didn’t seem to be lifting. However, within a couple of days the mist lifted enough to allow me to capture some images.
I am running a tour to Hungary for wildlife photographers in summer 2014. Come along to photograph some beautiful birds, ranging from the red-footed falcon to the striking European roller. More information: http://www.willnicholls.co.uk/workshops/

What a magnificent photograph. I interned at a WildlifeRehab Center here in Minnesota. On occasion we’d get a raptor temporarily until we could get him to the Raptor Center. Such powerful jaws and so keen in their sight. Amazing animals

Beautiful photo. If it would have been taken under different angle, you could have captured the reflection in the water. I am a big fan of reflection photos – on a building, in a mirror (i don’t mean of girls in bathroom). My favorite type is when an object is captured on a buiding and the windows devide it into parts, like this reflection on a skyscraper . What do you think about it? Have you done something similar before? Thanks for sharing, the eagle is majestic.
Amazing plumage. Nature has the best patterns.
Gorgeous
Birds of prey are fascinating and your shot caught the beauty and wildness of this one. I love winter when in the bareness, I can spot more hawks while driving.
Great shot! What a majestic bird!!
He almost looks like he’s posing for you!
Majestic!
That’s a very intense bird! It has character.
